Bentley has added a new performance model to the Continental Flying Spur range for 2009. The new Flying Spur Speed shares its twin-turbo 600-horsepower 6.0-liter W12 engine with the Continental GT Speed.The 2009 Flying Spur Speed is touted by Bentley as its most powerful four-door model ever. Rated at 553 pound-feet of torque and mated to a ZF six-speed automatic transmission, the uprated 12-cylinder engine propels the Flying Spur Speed from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, enabling a top speed of 200 mph.Of course, the "entry level" Continental Flying Spur is no slouch. The standard 6.0-liter W12 produces 552 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60-mph sprint takes only 4.9 seconds, and top speed is a still impressive 195 mph.The Flying Spur Speed has some additional hardware tweaks and features designed to set it apart from its more mundane sibling.Stiffer shocks, springs and bushings have been fitted, along with thicker front and rear stabilizer bars. The self-leveling air suspension drops ride height by 0.4 inch. The Servotronic steering system has been retuned to improve response and feedback. Pirelli P Zero performance tires are mounted on new 20-inch multispoke wheels finished in bright silver or dark tungsten.The Speed edition has subtle exterior design cues, including grille and air intakes in dark chrome as well as wider tailpipes.The Flying Spur Speed can be custom ordered with the Mulliner Driving Specification, which bundles drilled alloy pedals, 20-inch two-piece alloy wheels, a gearshift lever in knurled chrome and leather, diamond-quilted leather on seat facings and door panels, an indented leather headliner, embroidered Bentley emblems in the headrests and a choice of burr walnut and piano black veneers.The standard Continental Flying Spur hasn't changed much for 2009. It gets a few discreet exterior modifications and adds such features as a 1,100-watt Naim audio system and optional radar-based adaptive cruise control.
